Announcements / Missing Me?

I'm going to be traveling to VA this weekend (by car) for my Army Reunion. I will most likely not have reliable access during the next two weeks, but will try to keep up with SAHC and hopefully DLH and BNW as best as I can. I think BITB can run along on its own for the meantime, shopping and such.

BSG Recruiting / Recruiting --- Cross Over BSG/StarGate

Just got to thinking about a cross over game with BSG and Stargate. Consider the potential of Colonial Marines battling Cylons infected with Gao'uld! Mix of tech and use of gate technology to spread toasters all over the Galaxy.

Well, we'll see what happens. I hope to take this month to work up more details and get the game off to a start in October. And it's been two years since BSG was running. 'Bout time to get another going.

Early breakout of the second Cylon war. The team is assigned to the Shiloh and the BSG group 32 / support group 42 (not Barnes' group), stationed in the Pleiades cluster. Previous games included Shell Game, BUnderGround and Black Ops.

I tend to run a pretty active (see action oriented) game, and will start new characters at Vet level. Character quirks are appreciated, but I'd avoid things like deft/mute (had enough of the chalk board communications).

Post here if you are interested, and any ideas on character type.

Returning characters accepted.

Seamus regained consciousness and managed to join the rest of the crew on the bridge as Vic responded to a Wave. "Hey, boss. Got a package on Aphrodite going to Persephone. Good pay and small container. We can easy hop over there and pick it up. Shall I acknowledge?"

Seamus, looking still worn and beat, sighed heavily before answering. "Yeah, we need the pay. Go for it. " He turned to the others, "We should probably talk... about what happened back there. "

He turned and lead them (except for Vic) to the galley area, poured himself something a bit stronger than coffee, and flopped into the easy chair in the corner.

"That was retribution. Back there. Some fellows who didn't like my end of the War. Took it personally. When they tracked me down, they set up a bogus cargo to trap me. I'd gotten a bit careless over the years; guess I thought it was all done. But some can't shake what the War done to them and their mates. They take it out on whoever was in charge. That was me." He shook his head but then cradled it in both hands as if part of it was going to fall off.

I'm taking the site down tomorrow AM for a day or two. There is a major change happening in the background, nothing that should affect the gaming in general, but I need there to NOT be posting for this period of time, less those posts be lost.

I'll post another notice once we are back up.

Bump In The Black / [BitB] Episode 6: Homestead on Hera

Dust blows up around the Elena as she settles down onto the small landing pad. It would be just enough room for the longer former landing craft. On either side other smaller ships sit quietly, one of them in the process of unloading cargo. Cargo handlers zig zag from it to the warehouse out on the edge of the landing grid. As Vic reduces thrust, the ship settles down on its landing struts and a small vehicle pulls up to the bow of the ship.

Two men in uniforms exit the vehicle and approach the airlock on the ship's left front side. A firm rap on the steel of the hull announces their presence.

General Discussion / Serious lost time.

I've been diagnosed with retina separation and am going into surgery tomorrow. My recovery of minimal two weeks includes spending my days with my head in my lap. So it would seem my time online will be at the least sporadic. Trying to game with my head tucked under my a$$ isn't my idea of fun.

In the meantime, BitB can run pretty much by itself. Assume Meg will keep the crew organized and Cordelia in the air. Sam can whip up some healing or destruction, as needed. Carter... well, we still have to see what happens there.

Morning breaks over the star port terminal and warehouse district. John Chen had managed to procure a shipment of machine parts (rather bulky but well contained in steel shipping containers) the fill a good two thirds of the Elena's massive cargo hold.

The rest of the crew had gathered in the commons to discuss plans for the day before taking off for their destination.
[- CG: you can pick the planet that the cargo is destined for. I have no real plans at this time. -]

A chime announces a wave arriving, and Driscoll taps his local Cortex pad to transfer it from the bridge to his personal device. Reading it, it announces a fairly handsome fee to transport three individuals and their prize possessions off planet.

General Discussion / Cortex Core vs Cortex Plus

Some discussions have occurred about running a new game using Cortex Plus, and with MWP coming out with a new version of Serenity RPG, I thought I would take a look at one of their modules to see what the differences might be.

I already know, based on investigating the Leverage game which is based on CP (Cortex Plus) that Traits, Skills and such are done somewhat differently. On reading over the new Echoes of War: Friends in Low Places, I note that actions are done somewhat differently as well:

Resolving actions use Dice Pool that can be three or more die, only the higher two die are used in the result. This board's build in Die Roller does not currently have this capability.

Actions don't take a set time, nor is there any penalty for multiple actions, although only one action is taken at a time.

Initiative is not used. Although we could still run with it here. According to the new rules, one character is chosen by the GM to do his action; once done, the player picks the next character and so on until everyone has done their action. The last player then chooses the next player to start the next round. Weird, and not very usable in PBP with the frequency of posting.

It was a dark chilly winter night as the three of them stood just outside the diner which had recently closed for the night. They had found themselves stranded in the warehouse district and sought temporary respite in the small eatery while trying to decide their next step and how to get back to the main port and off planet.

Sounds of gunfire in the distance preceded the screeching of tires as a dark van sped by and ducked into a side alley a half block away. A crashing and clattering announced the arrival of the vehicle as it smacked a trash receptacle in making its halt. Moments later, three men appear at the edge of the alley entrance, seeming to duck into the shadows as they made way away from the scene of the van's location.

Deng returns to the Elena with his curious find. The others, packed into the confiscated van, weave around the city streets to avoid being tracked and finally dump the vehicle and make their own way back in the thinning darkness. The hour is early morning and everyone is recovering in the galley.

Gino appears from the forward stairwell and greets everyone with a huge grin. "Is most good that you here are. Much of importance is about. I have clues solved that many may be chasing us. And others that help to be with us soon. Your expedition success is? Yes?"

He nods at the bundle at Deng's feet.

The four of them returned to the Elena, some with their goods and the others with clues. One thing learned in their moments in the bar were that there was an opportunity to obtain a cargo suriptisously that might produce income without expense.

They gather in the crew lounge over a quick meal and drinks to discuss their plans. Do they tackle this or leave it alone and head off in search of something else?

General Discussion / Slow to no gaming.

Ok, I've closed one game as completed, and two more as no activity since January. My Marine game as well as the Bump in the Black is seriously dying due to slow posting (and in my case, rapidly loosing focus). Brave New World is still running strong, and both Destroyermen and Steampunk at least have sporadic activity.

This is just a plea that if we can't recruit more players, or get some of the older ones back and active, I feel this board is going to dry up within the year.
