I am going to run a steampunkish Airship Pirates game in the near future.  I am still working out details (and am open to suggestions), but I am looking for 2-4 players, at least one of whom is the captain.  I am debating using my modified Leverage hack rules or Core Cortex - if you have a preference, let me know.

Please respond if you are interested.

Yes oh please god yes :D
(I prefer core, because I've never played leverage)
What positions did you have in mind?

I'd be up for it. Core for me as the few times I've tried Leverage rules, it always seemed disasterous.

I'm also still debating keeping Sam in BNW.

Positions I am envisioning:
Captain
Navigator/XO
Quartermaster/Cargomaster
Engineer
Gunners
'Marine' (read: sharpshooter)

Another possibility would be a captured hostage, waiting to be ransomed ( or alternately, had the ransom refused and so joined the crew).

Can I get onboard now and saw Marine officer/sharpshooter? Because I love the sound of that...
What's the setting like? Alternate universe, or original universe?

It depends on what people want to do - The background is that a war is imminent, but has not yet hit the area.  Hit and run attacks on both sides are possible.  I am thinking either an alternate 1812, or a completely original universe.  I'm leaning towards the alt-1812, to be honest (War of the Fifth Coalition, War of 1812, etc).

With that, we could be privateers instead of pirates.

I hope that you do decide to keep Sam in BNW.

If you ran a war of the 5th coalition as brit skyship Privateer's... I think I may have to marry you...

But knowing this site, we'll end up as americans in 1812. Damned americans  ;D

Heh, I was thinking along those lines, actually.   ;D

EDIT:  of being Brits, not Americans.  Though, getting involved in, say, the Battle of Chateauguay (as Brit privateers)  would be AWESOME.

Who do I have to kill to join?  :)

No seriously. Just say who.  ;D

However, I want in and as long as you are asking. I prefer Cortex Core.

I'd be happy with brits whatever the time period. This little island doesn't get enough love :D

questions....
What sort of ship? Baloon or magic?
Gender limitations?
Are there going to be broadside duels in the sky? :D
I honestly can't wait...

No magic - these are steam-powered balloon and rotor ships (there will also be rotor-vessels, but those are much smaller - think lifeboats/dingies).

No gender limitations.

And yes, broadside duels in the sky are definitely going to happen.  ;D

(Warning, incoming military geekery). These ships will change land warfare, so much. A standard land-side battery of gun is about 6 pound guns, while a naval frigate has a broadside of... well probably around 12-18 twelve pound guns. That's a broadside weight of 36 to 144. These guns are heavier, do more damage, and have longer range. It only gets worse when you think a 3rd rate could easily carry 32 guns to a side, all of them 18 pounds or more.

An increase in weight of shot like that would have an enormous impact on how battles are fought. We may see skirmishing appear much earlier. Also AA weaponry such as upward angled cannons. Fortifications will be very vulnerable to attack by sky-ships. Perhaps a sort of stationary defence balloon will appear, but I don't know how you're going to equal a heavy guns range...

Now, you may say 'oh, we'll just counter with our own ships', but there will be battles where they cannot be present, leading to bombardment of the undefended troops. Still, aerial skirmishes over a battlefield sound fun :D

Oh, also scouting. 5th and 6th rates are only going to be more important now, to both navies and armies...

This was basically a bit of a ramble on how flying ships will impact warfare :) I hope you like it

Oh, there are going to be several early innovations that will change things.  The airships are just part of it.  ;)

I'm actually envisioning the war to end up more like WWI than the Fifth Coalition.  But watch out for Richard Sharpe, he's a right bastard.  ;D
